Guest lectures on Applications of Basic Sciences organized by Epsilon Club

Department of Science (Epsilon Club) of Dev Samaj College for women, Sec-45B, Chandigarh organized guest lectures on “Applications of Basic Sciences” by eminent Professors Prof. I. B. S. Passi (IISER Mohali), Prof. S. K. Tomar (Department of Mathematics), Prof. K. K. Bhasin (Department of Chemistry), Prof. Keya Dharamvir (Department of Physics), Panjab University Chandigarh under the auspicious of Chandigarh chapter of NASI (National academy of science, India). Principal Dr. Jaspal Kaur welcomed the esteemed guests and congratulated the department for organizing this event.
Professor S. K. Tomar from center of advanced studies in mathematics, Panjab University, Chandigarh delivered a lecture on “Mathematics: its applications in science& Engineering. He started his talk with the definition of mathematics and discussed the applications of mathematical equations in applied sciences like steam engine, earth quake prediction, agriculture and many more. He discussed complicated theorems and equations of mathematics in very easy manner which can be used to solve our daily routine science problems.
Professor Keya Dharamvir from Department of Physics, Panjab University Chandigarh threw light on Sir C. V. Raman’s life and achievements through her lecture entitled “When radiation met vibrations: Life-lines of C. V. Raman”. Her lecture was focused on Sir C. V. Raman’s journey of life which started from understanding the vibrations of different musical instruments and reached at winning Nobel Prize for Raman Effect. She made students understand in an interesting way about the facts of vibrations, light and other eminent scientists of India at that time.
Professor K. K. Bhasin, CSIR Emeritus Scientist, Department of chemistry, Panjab University, addressed students on the topic “Fascinating Aspects of Chemistry”. As the title says he explained to the students some interesting facts of molecules, bonding and structure. He also demonstrated the concepts with live experiments to make students understand the concepts of chemistry in a better way.
All the speakers guided the B.Sc. students of the college to understand the scientific concepts and recognize them in daily life as it is the only way to learn and understand science.
