Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector-45/B, Chandigarh, celebrated the festive spirit of Basant Panchami. The campus wore the hues of the spring festival at ‘Tashan-E-Basant’- an event organised by the college on the theme of Basant.
Various competitions – Face Painting, Mehandi, Rangoli, Solo Dance, Group Dance and Miss Basant were organised. Students enthusiastically participated and were dressed in traditional colours of the season. A live band, Dastoor, set the rhythm of the celebration.
The Chief Guest, Dr Agnese Dhillon, Principal, Dev Samaj College of Education, Sec 36, was given a warm welcome by the Principal, Dr. Jaspal Kaur. Dr. Dhillon congratulated the college for the successful event to mark an age old tradition and crowned Tanya, B. Com-I Miss Basant, Vanshita, BA-II as Miss Noor and Jyoti from BA-II as Miss Patola. Kashish of BA-II stood Ist in Solo Dance, Arshdeep in Face Painting, Anjali and Anju in Rangoli, and Mamta in Mehandi. ‘Freedom 2 Dance’ Group presented a fusion dance which received a loud applause and won the first prize in group dance competition.
“The idea behind the fiesta was to connect students with our age old culture of celebrating onset of spring by observing a festivity replete with Indian traditions & ethos. It was a day full of enjoyment and fun for the students.” Said Dr. Jaspal Kaur, Principal, Dev Samaj College for Women.
