7-Day and Night Special NSS Camp

A 7 day NSS camp was held at Dev Samaj College for Women, Sec-45 B, Chandigarh, from 27.12.18 to 2.01.19. The theme of the camp was “Swaccha Bharat Abhiyaan”. Dr Jaspal Kaur, Principal, DSCW, said that the college has 2 NSS Units and around 100 NSS volunteers participated in the camp.
The camp started with an orientation programme in which the programme officers, Mrs Leena Gupta and Dr Anupam, apprised the students of the details of the camp. A special session on career counseling by Mr. Sulabh Srivastava, Deputy Manager of FDDI, Footwear Design and Development Institute, was held.
Various projects undertaken during these 7 days focused on overall personality development of volunteers. The volunteers took out a Swacchta Rally in the Burail village. They also helped the children from the village with their studies by holding free tution classes and computer training sessions for the children. A free dental checkup camp was also organized for the children and volunteers.
The volunteers were taken to the ‘Museum of Wisdom’ of ‘ Brahma kumaris’, Sector 33, where they learnt the art of living a healthy and happy life through values and spirituality. ‘Yoga Prana Vidya’ session by Mrs. Meeta Khanna, YPC Pranic healer, and Ms Baljeet Kaur, and a session on soft skills by Mrs. Rubal Joel Marwaha were conducted. The volunteers found both the sessions to be highly informative. Dr. Navneet Singh Aulakh , Senior scientist at Central Scientific Instruments Organisation, Chandigarh, conducted a session on environmental hazards of noise pollution and electromagnetic radiations. A special campus-decoration drive was also undertaken. Volunteers painted flower pots and bricks in the college campus.
Dr. Mrs G.K.Bedi (Gynecologist), Director of Bedi Hospital, Sector 33, Chandigarh delivered a lecture on Women’s health. In another session, Dr. Jitender Dahiya, Deputy Director, Social Protection and Mainstreaming, from Chandigarh State AIDS Society conducted an interactive session about HIV AIDS. A short movie on AIDS was also shown. Eye Donation Awareness camp by Dr SK Arya, Head, Opthamalogy, GMCH, Sector 32, was held.
One of the major highlights of the camp was a visit to village Teera near Malowa and Village Saini Majra, to introduce the students to Organic Farming. The students learnt about farm design, vermin composting, etc. Farmer Manbir Singh displayed organic products for their benefit. The camp concluded on Jan 2, 2019. Bikram Rana, the State Liaison Officer (office of DHE), Chandigarh, the Chief Guest at the Valedictory function, congratulated the college for the success of the camp. Dr Agnese Dhillon, Principal, Dev Samaj College of education, congratulated the efforts of the college in inculcating social awareness among the students.
